3rd F:
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
(In everything, give thanks).
When is it easiest to be thankful? When things are going good, right? I find this to be very true in my own life. Maybe it’s good news that a particular test was negative, may something like our response after we find our keys. (O thank God). It is certainly easier to praise God when you are happy, you and your family are healthy and comfortable, and life is going great.
Well, it is just as important, if not more important, to thank Him in the midst of trials, when things are not going well, when our health is under attack, when there is something going on that drains us and puts all our focus on that hardship.
Here in 1 Thessalonians, Paul tells the church at Thessalonica to rejoice always and give thanks in all circumstances. Why is this so important for Paul to inform the church and us? Maybe they were acting thankless, or showing a lack of appreciation towards God. The reality is and sometimes it’s hard to hear, but God is in control of all things and always has a plan for us. The trials we face are not pointless, they may serve a bigger purpose than what we can understand. Sometimes God calls us to suffer, and sometimes God brings us overwhelming joy, but ultimately, God calls us to a lifetime of continual thankfulness. As the bible verse says, It is God’s will that we give thanks.
Let take a quick moment to go around and mention one thing that we are thankful for.

3rd F:
A man and his wife were invited to spend the evening at his employer’s home for dinner, and then out into town to see the sites and attractions. His boss is very wealthy, and is very generous with his money and doesn’t want anyone to spend a dime.
The man’s wife was delighted to experience the life of the extremely wealthy. She knew this would be an experience that she would always remember.
On one occasion as they were about to enter an exclusive restaurant for some dessert, the boss was walking slightly ahead of them. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a few seconds in silent.
An awkward silence followed. What was he starring at? There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped. Quietly, the rich boss reached down and picked up the penny.
He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. The wife’s was in awe. How absurd she thought! Why would he waist his time picking up a single penny?
Throughout the evening, the wife thought about that penny… and it bothered her. Finally, she causally mentioned that her son once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been rare one.
A smile crept across the man’s face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see.
Look at it. He said. Read what it says. She read the words United States of America.
No, not that; read further.
One cent? No, keep reading.
In God we Trust? Yes!
The wife replied…And?
The rich man said, And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even his name on a coin. Whenever I find a coin, I pick it up and see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it!
God drops a message right in front of me, telling me to trust Him?
Whenever I see a coin, I stop and look at it to see if my trust is still in in God. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God’s way of starting a conversation with me, and I’m thankful for that. God is patient and pennies are plentiful!
Psalm 34:4-6
Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. He will bring out your righteousness as the light, and your judgment as the noonday.

In the spirit of Merkin Madness, I’d like to talk about anger. As men, I know this is something we can all relate to.

Anger is everywhere. It’s in the news, it’s in the schools, it’s in the work environment, and we even see it driving down the roads. Let me share with you a little story.

An everyday honest man was being tailgated by a stressed-out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turned yellow just in front of him, and he decided to make a full stop. He did the right thing, stopping at the light where there was also a crosswalk. He could have easily beaten the yellow light by accelerating through the intersection, but he did the right thing and came to a complete stop. The tailgating woman just flew off the handle as she slammed on the horn with one hand, while giving the middle finger with the other, screaming in frustration that she missed her chance to get through the intersection.

Does this sound familiar? Maybe we can relate.

Well, as she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window. She looked up and saw the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. Then, he took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects. He said to her, “Mam, I’m very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, cussing up a storm, and flipping off the guy in front of you. It was then, that I noticed the ‘Choose Life’ license plate holder, the ‘What Would Jesus Do’ bumper sticker, the ‘Follow Me to Sunday-School’ bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk. So naturally, I assumed that you had stolen the car.

You see men, anger has so much power and can have control over any individual, anyone one of us can be subject to it.

The word Anger found in the dictionary as a Noun that says: a strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure, or hostility. As a Verb, it means to fill with anger, or provoke anger in.

As Christians, High Impact Men, Role Models, Teachers, & Leaders in our home and our community, we are certainly not exempt from this behavior of anger, in fact the Bible says in

Proverbs 27:4, “Wrath is fierce, and anger is a flood”. “Anger is a Flood”.

What does that mean?

Take a moment and think of a flood and what it looks like. Here we have a flood that just comes roaring in, and what is it doing, it’s destroying people, property, and everything in its path.

It’s just so powerful, it rips through and destroys everything.

This is why we need to get control of our anger, because it can ruin us, and everyone around us.

Ephesians 4:31 – “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with malice.”

Let’s look at Cain. He became angry with his brother Abel, and then what happened, he murdered him.

Prior to this event, you find in Genesis 4:6-7: God said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why are you looking down? Will not your face be happy if you do well? If you do not do well, sin is waiting to destroy you. Its desire is to rule over you, but you must rule over it.”

God is speaking about self-control. We need to hold our tongue, control our temper, and rule over our anger, to keep that flood from ruining everything we love.

Back to the Thang:

Teams split up again. Parner places feet against the fence and start Mike Tysons, Then, partner Frog Hops to free throw line, Bear Crawls to center line, then Crossovers to the fence, return to partner with a sprint and switch until a total combine 100 Mike Tyson are completed.

The Price is Right Run back to AO, but not before stopping to do Lt Dans across the bridge.

HIM finished strong with plenty of time for the COT.

The book of Revelation is the last book of the new testament, in the Greek it is called apokalypsis, meaning “unveiling” or “revelation”. This is the revelation of Jesus Christ. Jesus is speaking to John and offers comfort and encouragement to Christians of all ages that God is firmly in control. He also addresses that when the time is right, the forces of evil that seem to dominate our world will be utterly destroyed, and God’s eternal kingdom will come into its fulfillment. Jesus, described as the Lamb, the One like a Son of Man dictates seven messages for John to send to the seven churches in Asia Minor. Each message praises the church community for its strengths and urges community members to correct their weaknesses.

Revelation 3:14-22 reads,

“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:

The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Origin of the creation of God, says this:

‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. The one who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat with My Father on His throne. The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”

This was Jesus addressing the church in Laodicea because they were LukeWarm. They understood this analogy because their drinking water came through a channel from a spring six miles to the south, and when it arrived, it was disgustingly lukewarm. The water they received was not like the water at the hot springs where it originated, where people used to wash in etc.., nor was it cold for the purpose of drinking. Being hot and cold is useful, and will benefit the Kingdom of God. But, being LukeWarm is useless and benefits nothing. Jesus says to them, be zealous (passionate) and repent.

In 2013, a man created a fake company and sent fake invoices to Google, claiming Google owed an outstanding balance. Because the invoices were many and overwhelming, Google decided it was easier to pay the bills and not investigate the bills. The man swindled Google out of 100 million dollars. Later, the man was caught and he pled guilty to fraud. He was pretending to be someone who he was not, just like the Laodicean Church. They too were frauds.

If we are living a lukewarm life, then we are living in a “gray world”. We are simply existing with no purpose. We need to step up and be useful, we need to paint or get off the ladder. A life without God is not a life at all, it’s just us idling in time until we die. So, let’s get out of this gray area and step into a strong relationship with Christ and avoid being a man just “existing” in this world.

Let me leave you with this for us to examine ourselves: The signs of a lukewarm Christian is that:

¡ God is only a source to escape from the penalty of sin, but they still love living in their sin.
¡ They attend church and worship God as a religious activity, but their actions do not show the fruits of a transformed life.
¡ There is no evidence of fruit in their life.
· They don’t enjoy praying or spending time in the presence of God and glorifying Him in everything they do.
· They don’t share their faith, or have a burden for the lost.
¡ Their eyes are set on the things of this world.
· They don’t have much time for God, there’s always an excuse.
¡ No one even knows that they are followers of Christ.
· and so on…

3rd F
Being a Man who Leads

In the Bible Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 11, where he says, “The man is the head of the woman…For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man, for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but woman for the man’s sake. This is Paul upholding the concept of a man’s leadership in the family by appealing to the order of creation, and the fact that man was created first, then the woman as a helper to man. Later on in Ephesians Paul addresses a married man’s role as head of his own home. Paul establishes that God’s design is that the husband is “the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church”. Then the bible gives specific instructions on how husbands are to fulfill their leadership role, beginning with the important command: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loves the church”.

Let’s think about the for a second. How much does Jesus love His church. This love would be described as a sacrificial, purifying, caring, unbreakable, Christ-like love. Christ’s love for the church is a model for husbands to follow, and is a living illustration of the redemptive love of Christ. One of the greatest act of love anyone could do for another is to sacrifice their own life for them. (Acts 20:28 – Christ purchased the church with His own Blood).

Now the question to ask is, if we are to love our wives with that same kind of love, how to we compare? Well, the answer is we all fall short, and we do not even come close. But that’s okay, because Christ has set the standard, so we now know where to aim.

Some more questions we could ask ourselves is:

How are we sacrificial in our own home?

Are we so self-focused that we are not aware of the needs in our home?

Are we willing to sacrifice our time to listen to & comfort our wives and provide emotional and physical security?

Who is the spiritual leader in the home?

If you are a Christian man, then you will recognize that success in your home is far more important than success in your career.

So when we leave here today, let’s note where it all begins, with the command, “Husbands, love your wives”.

C.H. Spurgeon said,

“A husband loves his wife with a constant love, and so does Christ his church. He will not cast her away tomorrow having loved her today. He does not vary in his affection. He may change in his display of affection, but the affection itself is still the same. A husband loves his wife with an enduring love; it will never die out. He says, “Tell death us do part will I cherish thee”, but Christ will not let death part his love to his people. Nothing shall separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

So gents, with that said, we now know God’s standard when it comes to being a Godly husband, a leader in our home, and a father to our children. Let’s use that in our life to better serve our family.

We are foundation builders!!!

Matthew 7:24-29

24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts on them, will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and its collapse was great.”

Here in Matthew 7, Jesus speaks of the parable of the two houses. One was built on the rock, and the other was built on the sand. When a huge storm came, both houses were hit with the same storm, but the one built on the rock never moved, and the one built on the sand was wrecked and destroyed.

The builders of these houses, built their homes with the same materials, the same quality, and the same specs, except for the foundation on what they were built on. The foundation is what made the difference in this situation. In comparison, it takes hard work to build your house on a good foundation, and it is very easy to build your house on the sand.

The house build on the rock represents the individual who loves Christ and follows him. They invest their lives in the pursuit of Christlikeness. 1 Corinthians 1:11 says, “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.”

The house built on the sand represents the foolish builder who looks the part, and is polished on the outside. However, he deceived himself thinking that everything would be okay when trials would come his way. He had nothing to anchor him down, he heard God’s word, but never put it into practice or lived it out. There was no true evidence that this individual grounded himself in the teaching and principles of Jest Christ.

So gentlemen, we are all guaranteed to have a severe storm come into our lives. In fact, God says that we will endure trials, but when it comes, will we be grounded in Him? The only way we will not budge is if we have built of lives on our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

So, let’s take a step back today, and look at our foundation. Let’s do an inspection of our life, and see where we are at. Where are our priorities, are we just hearing God’s word, or are we living it out in our life?

James 1:12 says, “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”

F3 = Fitness, Fellowship, FAITH

Faith defined according to the dictionary: Complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

Faith described in the bible can be found in Hebrews 11:1- Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen.

Another way to look at this verse is the persevering hope in the promises of God. God cannot lie, it’s not in His nature. Basically, Faith is taking God at His Word.

After this verse the writer points out various examples of believers that demonstrated a real saving faith in God. Read Chapter 10 & 11 of Hebrews.

The Greek word for Faith in the New Testament is the word Pistis. The Greek Lexicon puts it as, The conviction of the Truth, and in relation to Christ: A strong and welcome conviction or belief that Jesus is the Messiah, through whom we obtain eternal salvation in the kingdom of God.

So, why is Faith so important?

The bible says that Faith in Christ is the only way to be saved, because it is only by faith in Christ that we can be counted righteous in God’s sight (Galatians 2:16). It is only by faith in Christ that we can be reconciled to God (Romans 5:9-11). It is only by faith in Christ that we can receive eternal life (John 3:16). Jesus is the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5).

So, how does faith work?

A, B, C’s of Salvation.

  1. AADMIT to God that you are a sinner.

Romans 3:23 – for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2. B – BELIEVE in Jesus Christ as God’s Son.

John 14:6 – Jesus said to him, â€œI am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.

3. C – CONFESS your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Romans 10:9-10 – that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

See men, our 3rd F is more than just a belief in something. It is more than knowing that our brothers here will have our back. Society will even say faith is a sign of weakness. That it is a form of a crutch to get through life, But God says Faith is the most important aspect of our existence. It is by faith we will have reconciliation with a Righteous and Holy God, so that we will be with Him forever.

So, as we go throughout our day, we should all remember that God has freely given us the Gift of Salvation. We do not need to do anything to earn it, because Christ Jesus has already done the work for us.
