3rd F-

I’m reading from a couple books right now, Along with some recommended articles. Last night while reading- the same phrase showed up in two different readings and I thought I’d share some on it this morning.

-Esprit de Corps-

“Esprit de corps is a French phrase that translates into ‘group spirit’. Esprit de corps is one of Henri Fayol’s 14 administrative principles. The principle states that an organization must make every effort to maintain group cohesion in the organization. It notes that dividing your competition is a clever tactic, but dividing your own team is a serious error.”

Probably the best example of esprit de corps can be seen in military. Especially those who have been in battle together.  A loyalty is formed from experiencing the good , bad and everything imaginable in between.

For those of us who may not have served in that same capacity, it’s doesn’t mean we can not live our lives with the same loyalty. The same commitment to group spirit – whether that group is F3, workplace, a business, a team or your family.

The reality is that we as men are in battle and the challenge to each of us is – What is your commitment to creating cohesion in this areas? an environment that people desire to be a part of and know is always in charge, Leading and pressing forward.

The esprit de Corps is felt here, every gloom. Lead by men who choose to roll out and not roll over.  Who choose to sharpen others. Who choose to change. Who choose to even be a little vulnerable. Who choose to allow themselves to take what they learn here and use it through out their day to add value to everything they are involved in.

So as you think of the esprit de corps -remember

We leave no man behind.

We never discourage , but encourage.

Men want to achieve something that is hard, challenging and worth pursuing.

When seeking leadership , goals to achieve and tasks to compete – we seek like minded – goal oriented men to achieve them with.

And this is the brotherhood that F3 has created.

3rdF- ‘ Say Not’ from Mark Battersons book ‘Play the Man’  The hardest part of the body to subdue is the tongue. So, let’s issue a gentleman’s challenge. What we refer to as locker room talk, the Bible calls sin.    Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk of course joking, which are out of place.
Here’s a simple rule of thumb: don’t say something about someone that you wouldn’t say if they were standing here. And above all, honor your wife with your words. If you’re going tot all about her behind her back, make sure you are bragging!    There is a powerful little phrase repeated in Scripture: “ say not”     Whatever you verbalize, you give power to. When you voice negative thoughts, you’re reinforcing what’s wrong. Over time, it often becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.    Instead of verbalizing negativity, speak words of faith.    Instead of verbalizing complaints, speak words of praise.   When God called Jeremiah to be a prophet, Jeremiah felt overwhelmed and under qualified. He used inexperience as an excuse, and God rebuked his excuse.    Say not, I am a child
So Quit making excuses!I’m too old.  I’m too young. I had bad parents. I’ve made too many mistakes. I don’t have the education. I don’t have the experience. SAY NOT!       What needs to go on your “say not” list?  You can start with obscenities, foolish talk and course joking.  While you are at it, add gossiping and lying. And to top it off, quit insulting others or bragging about yourself.       If we can subdue our tongues, there is no part of our bodies we cannot control. James likened the tongue to the rudder of a boat— it turns the whole ship.       “ When we put bits in the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever  the pilot wants to go.  Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.”Say not!

3rd F- No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.’ Hebrews 12:11
Disciplines of Fitness.  Faith.  Fellowship.

Fitness– self explanatory. Stay steady. We all have seen, felt and experienced the results of discipline in this area by being consistent with F3. And for those who haven’t… you can Start now.

Faith– it isn’t always easy to believe in the unseen Or even what’s been promised.   But when focused enough it can be seen. Choose daily to see the good through the even roughest times.

Fellowship– this can be ever challenging with schedules, commitments , priorities , families, work, etc.   but staying disciplined to healthy fellowship with men who empower and sharpen each other will in turn keep you sharper and allow you to add value to all those around you.  By committing to stay disciplined in this area- you may open yourself to vulnerability. But it your peaks and valleys of life this proper fellowship will be what helps navigate us through.

Use the QSource

Today I decided to sprinkle in some references from f3Nation site and QSource, as we get into the routine of showing up and running through these workouts- we need to keep in mind how and why we are here. And the importance of the mission and credo of F3.

Starting with this lovely piece of writing…..

Circle up and Repeat the 25 merkins/ prisoner squat rotation

Mosey back to basketball courts.

An F3 Core Principle is to end each Workout with a Circle Of Trust, what we call the COT. Like most things F3, the COT was not part of the original design. It evolved to fill a need. Men told us that they didn’t feel right just jumping in their cars after the Workout without some type of minor ceremonial send off. So we conjured up the COT, which is where we recognize each man individually and say a brief prayer.

Within the COT, we often find ourselves asking the Creator for help at being better husbands, fathers, friends, mentors and workers. We don’t know the source of this particular petition, it just came about and seemed to spread across F3Nation. It is a recognition that as men, we yearn to be better at the things we were created to be, and have learned the hard way that we cannot do it alone. We need help. We need truth that is hard-earned and hard-learned. We need Wisdom.

But which of us is wise? How do we know what we are hearing is Wisdom and not the song of a fool? How are we to discern the voice of the shepherd from that of the wolf?

Because the Q is a Leader who takes responsibility for the Outcome, he is also a man who seeks help answering these questions. In turn, because he is part of a Community, he is obligated to help other men find them as well. The source of the Q’s Wisdom, the QSource, is best discovered through the mutual iron-sharpening that occurs when people unite and search for answers together, the old-fashioned way.’

It is apparent to me every workout that each of us have the ability to lead. Ability to pull strength from each other and make each of us better HIM. It’s isnt just the Q who leads… it is the man who responds to what is inside him and lifts another man to where he is capable.
